As women artists at different stages in their careers, the Primed Canvas Group - made up of artists Deborah Burnstone, Tanya Goodman Bailey, Fatemeh Bagherian, Gillian Harding and Gwen Ovshinsky - share a common thread with most people in the capital, of living in London as part of a wider and diverse diaspora. That human need to finding one’s place in the world may carry more weight with the migratory lens and so, with this theme in mind, they welcome you to their exhibition, 'Finding Place', where nature becomes an escape and haven and where depicting stories fosters acceptance and healing.
Whilst their techniques and styles may differ, there is a remarkable sense of cohesion in their work as a whole. Through this exhibition, the group creates a space where appreciation and understanding flourish, encouraging you to embrace your unique identity empowered by the collective spirit of creativity. Envisioning unity and celebration infuse their canvases (and lives) with vibrant narratives.
The Primed Canvas Group formed as part of a collection of artists who met on various courses at the esteemed Essential School of Painting. Sketching weekly around London deepened connection, artistic vision, and desire to exhibit together. The name is a nod to the artist’s excitement of a freshly prepared canvas as well as an intention to stay ‘primed’: informed by discussion and ready to create.
