This exhibition by Hilary Rosen M.A RCA features her colourful multimedia paintings which depict a variety of themes including English riverscapes, Greek mythology, solitude, still lifes and more.
Hilary Rosen M.A RCA studied Fine Art in Nottingham then three years at The Painting school at the Royal College of Art. She lives and has a studio in London, and her work is in many private and public collections worldwide. She works in various mediums, using acrylic, watercolours, printmaking, and embroidery. Most of the prints are one-off monoprints which are multi-layered images. She uses lino, stencils and reverse perspex printing to achieve the layering and depth of the painterly prints. Hilary is a member of the Printmakers Council and the East London Print studio.
This exhibition contains a variety of works and themes, including new acrylic paintings and monoprints based on riverscapes in Bath and Oxford. The images are painted in her studio from sketches and watercolour studies made in situ.
During lockdown, Hilary's work took on a historic turn when she researched imagery concerning the Greek Myths. She was particularly inspired by the myth of the Greek God of Medicine, Asclepius who was taught his craft by snakes (hence the ubiquitous signage for medical associations globally is the serpent). Other images in the exhibition relating to the Greek myths are The Three Fates, Clotho, who spun the thread of life, Lachesis, measured the thread of life and Atropos, who cut the thread of life - very apposite during Covid.
Other works in the exhibition depict solitary figures, isolated in interiors, viewing the outside world. The beauty of nature captured in watercolours, plus images from steamy jazz clubs and sumptuous still lives are represented in the exhibition, painted in watercolours and acrylics.
All works are for sale.
