THIRTEEN are pleased to return to Lauderdale House for their nineth exhibition which runs from 8th November till 4 December this year.
Formed in 2015, THIRTEEN are a group of accomplished award-winning photographers with many solo and group exhibitions to their credit, both in the UK and abroad.
As usual, there is no common theme but a variety of genre and subject matter to reflect each contributor’s idiosyncratic approach and preferred artistic expression. Ideas are explored both through monochrome or colour, digital or analogue. As a result, the exhibition is eclectic.
Street photography focuses on human activity – an exotic event or the more everyday; portraiture in glorious colour includes the late, great Michael Gambon; quirky topographic scenes from the Sussex coast; the natural world is represented by powerful visual images of waterfalls, while the animal world is depicted by poignant images of orangutans in Borneo’s shrinking habitat. Monochrome flowers stand out for their visual qualities: shape, texture and patterns; panoramic views are represented in an intriguing way as 360 degrees image; minimalism is dominated by a limited range of colour; still life is also present in its simple form - a preconceived idea of the arranged objects within the simple space.
The photographers’ aim was not to record but to interpret their subjective view of the subject-matter.
