The young people at Fresh and Camden Disability Youth have worked with porcelain, origami and printmaking to explore the emotional experiences of being overwhelmed.
Over the past six weeks, Fresh and Camden Disability Youth been working with artist Alison Lam as part of her 'Mind the Gap' project, funded by Arts Council England funded by Arts Council England’s National Lottery Project Grants. ‘Mind the Gap’ puts focus on the neurodiverse communities, delving into the intricate emotions in and out of moments of overwhelm. Alongside the workshops at Lauderdale House, Alison has been facilitating art workshops across the UK to collect conversations with the neurodiverse individuals and their parent carers.
Our Fresh Youth collective, run in partnership with Camden Youth Services, is for young people aged 13 - 19 (up to 25 for disabled young people). They meet every Thursday from 4pm to 6pm for free and fun creative sessions at Lauderdale House where they collaborate with exciting artists. The programme is youth-led and year-round, with the participants contributing ideas to future sessions and giving feedback at every stage of planning. This Autumn, we also collaborated with Camden Disability Youth to run a second creative session.
After the exhibition in our courtyard, these artworks will be exhibited in London and Manchester in March 2025 alongside works created by project participants across the UK.
