Our Fresh youth collective explored the way Victorians represented themselves in portraiture and used similar techniques to create their own photographic portraits.
They learned about studio photography and the use of lighting, back drops, pose, expression, clothing and objects to tell stories about themselves through portraits.
The portraits they created were then de-constructed and re-configured using collage techniques to create playful new works.
Fresh, run in partnership with Camden Youth Services, is for young people aged 13 - 19 (up to 25 for young people with disabilities). They meet every Thursday from 4pm to 6pm for free and fun creative sessions at Lauderdale House where they collaborate with exciting artists. The programme is youth-led and year-round, with the participants contributing ideas to future sessions and giving feedback at every stage of planning.

A Fresh Take on Victorian Portraiture will be on display in the Courtyard, our indoor community gallery at the heart of the House, during gallery opening times from Tuesday 18 February - Sunday 9 March.
- Monday - Tuesday : 12pm to 4pm
- Wednesday : 11am to 3pm
- Thursday - Sunday : 12pm to 4pm

Lauderdale House is a registered charity (275502), and we receive no regular government nor council funding. We rely on donations and grants to preserve this unique heritage building and run our free programme. For example your donation, big or small, may be used to buy materials or pay artists for our Fresh creative sessions, allowing the young people access to the arts for free.
