This is a joint exhibition by two London-based artists, Amanda Jones and John Milner, both of whom celebrate colour in their work with very different outcomes.
“Colour is life, for a world without color seems dead. As a flame produces light, light produces colour. As intonation lends color to the spoken word, color lends spiritually realised sound to a form” - Johannes Itten
Amanda Jones’s work reflects her fascination for colour and colour relationships and how they are perceived visually and psychologically. She works from direct observation using nature and landscape as a major resource, recording pattern and texture that are incorporated into her highly saturated images. Her work demonstrates her use of batik on paper, by applying colour dyes over layers of wax. This allows for spontaneity and leads to excitingly arbitrary and unpredictable outcomes.
John Milner’s oeuvre is in a variety of media. There are examples in this exhibition of works that are oil on canvas and examples that are oil on thick paper, together with works that have been created from watercolour and works created from acrylic paints. Some works in this exhibition explore the complexities of tessellated patterns of colour created from sequences of parallelograms. Other works record the artist’s direct response to the natural world.
Most of the works in the exhibition are for sale. Both artists can be visited in their respective studios in North London. To get in touch with the artists, please email Amanda Jones and/or email John Milner directly.
