Cello Solo Draws Attention to Climate Change in this free concert

Join renowned Italian cellist and composer Riccardo Pes on a unique concert blending classical and folk traditions with the raw beauty of nature to raise awareness of climate change. Inspired by the tragic loss of the Sycamore Gap Tree, Pes’ Music & Nature project explores the emotional and environmental connections between music, landscape, and humanity.

Pes will perform selections from his upcoming album, Sgrìoban Dìomhair (Mystical Trails), which was composed in the heart of Scotland’s wilderness. The album features recordings made in locations such as Stac Pollaidh and Kylesku, where natural soundscapes are interwoven with his evocative cello compositions. Pes’ performances will take audiences on a sonic journey—from the vibrant folk traditions of Glasgow to the remote shores of Cape Wrath—offering a deep and immersive listening experience.

With a career marked by international acclaim, including his widely recognized Lament for the Tree, Pes continues to push artistic boundaries. His work has been praised for its emotional depth and innovative approach to environmental storytelling through music.

“Music has the power to reconnect us with nature,” says Pes. “By composing in these extraordinary landscapes, I hope to inspire reflection on our relationship with the planet and the urgent need for climate action.”

Expect an evening of hauntingly beautiful cello performances, nature-infused compositions, and a powerful message about the fragile balance between humanity and the environment.
