The exhibition is inspired by these thoughts: A botanist looking at a meadow perhaps views it as a living organism; a farmer in his wellies might ponder the yield if he sowed it with flax. As a painter my thoughts aren’t thoughts at all but active reactions to energies, shapes, colours and tones located at one part of the colour spectrum or another.
How far do I go to see and know all there is about the meadow? I am aware in that moment that, out of the cataclysmic detonations of ancient stars some billions of years ago, the elements formed which would one day become this meadow on a tiny planet in a future slowly forming star system.
Painting is about such revelation; a desire to say something about my awareness, sentience and living, so others might see in their own way what I see there.
If I can bring into the present the fullness of my knowing, I’m aware that in the sub stream there hums, like a conspiratorial whisper, a great mystery. It passes among the leaves and the wind that rustles them. It is there in the glistening eye of a heron on its way home, reflecting in the wet curve of its eyeball the presence of the life force that sustains it. Can I find a connection to that great mystery, and help others to share in it?
