The artists begin their work in a landscape before returning to the studio to develop it, each informed by a different concern -
Strongly influenced by her childhood in rural Aberdeenshire, Shona Elrick's work is concerned with how mark-making and colour can express the experience of being in a landscape and with exploring the arbitrary nature and synchronicity of materials through collage. To learn more about Shona and her work, please visit her website or her Instagram page.
Shona's works:
1. Winter, Midday Walk. Oil and collage on board. 13cm x 18cm
2. Winter Moon and Tree-line. Oil and collage on board. 13cm x 18cm
Felicity Swan is interested in the intuitive fusion of flow and form. Drawing and painting are of equal significance in her practice; marking her surroundings on paper as she walks, she makes drawings that are at once abstract yet identifiable as landscape which then inform her studio work. To learn more about Felicity and her work, please visit her website or her Instagram page.
Felicity's works:
1. Scrubland, V. Charcoal, graphite, pastel on paper. 80cm x 88cm.
2. Seas of Treacle and Amethysts. Oil on canvas. 70cm x 70cm.
Janey Hagger explores the liminal space between the urban and natural world and our contemporary relationship to the idea of the romantic landscape. She is interested in how our notions of the natural world are influenced by film and screen. Janey works from the green spaces of her locality of North London and Cornwall.
