Kaveh, Zahra & Reza

Join us as storyteller Zahra Afsah, with the help of Reza Eslami on percussion and Kaveh Khamooshi on tanbur, brings the myths of Shahnameh to life in an evening of storytelling and poetry.

Under the blue dome of the sky, one day stories were created. Stories that have moved from heart to heart, calligrapher to calligrapher, painter to painter, poet to poet, people to people, language to language, land to land, voice to voice and soul to soul. In celebration of Nowruz, Zahra and her musicians will take you on a narrative journey as they recount old tales of Shahnameh ('Book of kings'), the national epic of Persia.

Born and raised in Tehran, Zahra Afsah is a storyteller who crafts the ancient Persian stories she tells with precision and passion. She studied Persian Painting and Transcultural Visuality, examining the links between oral storytelling and Persian miniature painting exploring the direct influences of the oral tradition. Zahra has run workshops, performed and told stories in schools, museums, festivals, exhibitions as well as informal settings. She has attended numerous storytelling festivals in Dublin, Isfahan, Lahore, Istanbul, Lithuania, Rome, Dubai, Marrakesh and more.

Accompanying Zahra are Reza Eslami on percussion and Kaveh Khamooshi on tanbur - listen to them below!
