Storm Thorgerson was one of the most influential graphic designers in history, best known for his iconic collaborations with bands such as Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. This exhibition is curated by his wife, Barbie Antonis, and includes pieces from her private collection.
Barbie Antonis:
"This exhibition is to celebrate the art and design work of Storm Thorgerson; a man with over-flowing creativity and fun, a love of argument (especially with record companies), never shy to speak his mind and rarely satisfied with work that wasn't perfect. And he was a workaholic.
With degrees in English Literature and Photography and Film from the RCA, Storm strode into the world of rock album cover design with brilliance and chutzpah, accompanied by his partner in crime and magic, Aubrey Powell, with whom the company Hipgnosis was born. Following a stormy (sic) rupture in 1985, Storm went on to establish a new team, a band of brothers and sisters under the name of Talking Fish and latterly StormStudios.
Storm died, far too soon, in 2013. This exhibition is a memorial to him ten years after his death. Lauderdale House is where Storm and I married. We loved it. Lauderdale House is where we held his funeral, in April 2013. And I still love it, just up the road from Highgate Cemetery where he is buried. The selection in the exhibition is but a fraction of his prodigious output so inevitably it contains my personal choices and most of the framed fine art prints will be for sale."
